What Is the Purpose of a Gate Valve?

2024-09-14

As a widely used fluid management device, gate valve uses a gate or wedge-shaped disc to move vertically with the fluid to open or block the flow of fluid in the pipeline. Gate valve is the most commonly used valve type in all process equipment. It is a linear motion valve. Its core function is to accurately control and completely block the flow of fluid, and has the characteristics of regulating flow and reducing pressure.

Fluid cutoff function of gate valve

The gate valve can completely open or close the fluid channel, and drive the valve disc to move vertically up and down in the valve body by rotating the valve stem. When the valve disc is completely lowered and fits tightly to the valve seat, a leak-free sealing environment is formed, which can effectively block the flow of fluid.

Flow control ability of gate valve

It is not limited to the fully open and fully closed state. By accurately adjusting the lifting position of the valve disc, it can flexibly control the valve opening, thereby adjusting the effective flow area of the fluid through the valve, and realizing fine adjustment of the flow.

Pressure reduction effect of gate valve

During the flow of fluid, the gate valve can increase the resistance of fluid flow through the special design of its internal structure, thereby achieving the effect of reducing fluid pressure. Especially when the fluid passes through a fully opened gate valve at a higher speed, the change in the channel between the valve disc and the valve seat causes the fluid speed to increase. According to Bernoulli's principle, the fluid pressure decreases accordingly.
